It has been pretty hectic here over the last few weeks !!! In preparation for our biggest ever rowi return to okarito I have been up on motuara island disease-screening all our young birds. Ieuan, Anna, Rein and I spent 4 days chasing 37 kiwi around the island taking blood samples to make sure they are all 100% healthy for their return home to Okarito Kiwi Zone now that they are big enough to defend themselves against stoats.
The weather was amazing too with not a breath of wind or cloud in the sky for the whole time we were working. The new jetty provided an excellent platform for swimming after work to cool off after our long days, even rein joined us for a swim each day before retiring to her cage for the night, completely tuckered out.
You may remember a couple of weeks ago, rein and I were heading to the beach for some down time over the weekend. Whitebaiting was the number one priority, however someone forgot to tell the whitebait!!!
We tried for a couple of hours each day but had absolutely no luck. Even Rein helped hold the net for a while. I reckon she thought she‘d get some too if she was helping.

Rein lends a paw.
