Vacancy : Kiwi Project Manager, Whakatane

An exciting opportunity has arisen to manage North Island Brown kiwi in the Whakatane District (Rangitaiki Area) for a period of 36 months.

This project is a joint initiative with Environment Bay of Plenty, Ngati Awa, the Whakatane Kiwi Trust and the Department of Conservation.

The focus of the position involves the implementation of the 10 year management plan designed to build on the existing kiwi populations within the Whakatane area and includes management, survey and monitoring of kiwi in the Whakatane District on Crown land, Council land and iwi land.  You will be responsible for all kiwi management actions in the Whakatane District and you will be required to prepare annual work plans as part of the management plan.  Written reports must be provided to the various partners on a regular basis.

You must be competent in all aspects of kiwi management, be physically fit and hold a full drivers license.  The position is based in the Whakatane Field Centre.  This temporary position is currently a vacancy within the Rangitaiki Area Office however it becomes a new temporary position within the Gisborne/Whakatane Area, East Coast/Bay of Plenty Conservancy effective 1 July 2009.
