A Single Image Can Change the World

| Print |
A single image can change the world. Your vote could be worth $25,000!

Auckland based photographer Anna Fawcus is passionate about both her photography and kiwi and found a great opportunity to bring them together in Canon’s ‘Creative for a Cause’ competition. BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust could be the lucky recipient of $25,000 if one of Anna’s entries wins.

“I chose kiwi as the subject for my photos because I wanted to capture the emotions many New Zealanders feel when they see images of our national icon – ‘pride’, ‘caring’, ‘belonging’,” says Anna.

“I also wanted to bring awareness to the amazing conservation efforts BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust has undertaken to literally save the kiwi from extinction.”

To vote for Anna’s entries, please click on the links below (please note this may take a few seconds to load):

Finalists are chosen based on voting popularity and photographic merit. If either of Anna’s photos wins, 100% of the awarded $25,000 will go straight to kiwi work as BNZ covers all of the operating costs of the Trust!

The winner will be announced on Thursday, 6 August, 2009.

A $25,000 donation would go a long way and could potentially fund:
•    predator control to protect 250 kiwi for an entire year
•    the first year of life for 20 kiwi chicks through BNZ Operation Nest Egg
•    kiwi avoidance training for more than 300 dogs.

Did You Know?

In 1800, millions of kiwi lived in forests, scrub and sand dunes. Today, only about 70,000 kiwi are left in all of New Zealand, and the place we’re most likely to see them is a zoo or bird sanctuary.
