Protecting places kiwi live is very important.
National Kiwi Hui 2010 - First announcement
Calling all kiwi practitioners! The kiwi hui is a great opportunity to come together and discuss what is happening in the kiwi world at large and network with people that share a common goal in saving our precious national icon!
The 2010 National Kiwi Hui will take place on:
Thursday 15th and Friday 16th of April, Lakeland Park Christian Camp, Queenstown.
Following on from past years of alternating venues and topics between both islands, this year’s hui will be focused on South Island kiwi species, projects and issues, though some topics will of course be relevant to all species or projects.
Call for Topics and Speakers
We are now seeking ideas on topics and speakers of particular interest to you – please e-mail these to Mere Davis at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
We have taken into account feedback from last year's hui on what worked well and what did not; please let us know if you have further ideas on how we should structure the hui, too (e.g., balance between presentations and break-out sessions, break out session facilitation etc.).
Meals, Accommodation and Transportation
As with previous years, meals, accommodation and, if required, transport to and from Queenstown airport are provided at no expense to attendees. This event is being coordinated and financed by BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust and DOC.
In past years we have been charged for all numbers registered, regardless of your attendance. Regretfully, as a number of registrants have not turned up on the day, this year you will be charged a fee if you do not notify us that you are unable to attend the Hui by the 12th of April. If you wish to be included in transport options, you will need to send through your flight information to the address above.
Accommodation is available for both the Wednesday and Thursday nights. There will not be a meal available on your arrival on the Wednesday night but Mere will be able to provide you will details of where you can eat near the venue. Tent sites are available if that is your first choice. You will be able to specify this on the registration form along with your dietary preferences, flight information, and transport requirements.
Bed linen is not provided by the venue so do not forget your pillow and sleeping bag! You are welcome to stay off site at your own cost, and still be included in the meals throughout the two days, but please let us know.
Afternoon tea on the Friday will be the last meal provided by the venue and all attendees will be required to vacate the venue on completion of the conference Friday afternoon.

Kiwi are ratites, one of a group of largely flightless birds. DNA research suggests kiwi are linked to the Australian emu and cassowary, not the moa as previously thought. Kiwi are found only in New Zealand.
