The 2002 establishment of the BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust built on 11 years of support for kiwi recovery.

Organisations will also need to meet the Trust’s eligibility criteria and, should their funding application be successful, agree in writing to all terms and conditions.
The Trust's funds are allocated through a yearly funding cycle, on a contestable basis. Funding applications for the Trust's 2012/13 funding year (1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013) have now closed.
See how the money was allocated for the 2012/13 year.
The Kiwi Recovery Group, a working group of kiwi experts around the country, will review all the funding applications within the context of the Kiwi Recovery Plan and its recommendations will be taken into account by the Trust.
