A practical guide and reference to help protect kiwi in the greater Kaitaia area

Kaitaia Kiwi Directory and Guide

The Northern North Island brown kiwi is under threat due to ongoing habitat loss and predation.  However, there is good news! Recent experience in kiwi recovery shows that with adequate landowner support these populations can be retained.

This directory and guide contains:

  • a summary of the roles of agencies and individuals involved in the protection of kiwi
  • an overview of kiwi protection methods
  • ideas for future planning and networking
