Harry Broad manages Strategic Issues for the External Relations Group in the Department of Conservation. As part of his role, he oversees funding programmes that support community groups doing biodiversity protection on private land.
Harry has also been instrumental in running a major programme within DOC looking at the contribution conservation makes to the economy, both regionally and nationally.
Over his working life, Harry has worked in a variety of roles in conservation, including Executive Assistant to the Minister of Conservation and as a community relations manager in the Wellington Conservancy.
He is a journalist by training and a previous winner of the Landcorp Agricultural Communicator of the Year Award. He has worked on a large range of newspapers, including the National Business Review.
Before rejoining DOC, Harry worked as a senior migration advisor in the Australian Embassy in Berlin. While there, he contributed a monthly "Letter from Berlin" to National Radio's "Nine to Noon" programme. Harry is currently a book reviewer for the programme.
